Changes and Improvements
Feedback from the 2009 event indicated issues with rider congestion in the first 10km of the route - particularly through the CBD.
Event organisers are currently working with the relevant authorities to implement a variety of course improvements to help reduce the congestion.
Change requests pending approval include:
- Changes to traffic light phasing through the CBD to allow for greater cyclist priority riding in
the event. - Additional road / lane closures through the CBD to increase space available for cyclists.
- An increase in the start window time to allow a longer period for cyclists to travel through the CBD.
- Some changes to the cycle route to avoid congestion points identified in 2009.
- Increased Police and Traffic Management staffing along the course.
Note: in 2009, police presence was severely depleted due to the Victorian Bush Fire Crisis. - Additional diversion routes for non-event traffic.
