Why do you support MS Australia?
I was once the manager of a person who had MS. MS Australia was terrifically helpful providing social workers and OTs at no cost. It helped us modify the workplace to suit her needs and make sure we did the best we could for her.
How did you go about reaching your Fundraising goal in 2009?
I simply sent out an email to the several hundred people I have an email address for and the money just started rolling in. It was incredible how generous people were.
How easy and rewarding did you find your fundraising?
As easy as sending an email! Honestly, that's all I did. People then forwarded my email to other people and it just snowballed. On the first couple of days as I saw my name rise up through rankings it became quite important to try and stay in the top three or at least the top ten. My family and friends got quite competitive about it.
Do you have any tips for other fundraisers?
Just go for it! MS is a fantastic cause (most people who donated said so), so just ask. They will either give something or ignore you, so you have nothing to lose.
How did your ride go on the day?
The ride was fantastic. I went with two of my sons and we had a wonderful time. We approached illegal speeds coming down the bridge, but remained law abiding at all times (as we always do on the road).
Will you be back bigger and better in 2010?
Sure – at least 5kg bigger!
